I just read the premise and I'm gonna get the first book. I'm such a geek for epic fantasies.

I LOVED IT!! Lol. It was really great. I really liked how Martin made the human houses/lands so complex which is realistic unlike in, say, LOTR where humans live in two kingdoms and there's no infighting. I also thought the history was very interesting and the way he put in little peices of lore here and there so you had to piece it together yourself. While winter is a cliche for the coming of evil I think the night that lasts decades was a pretty creepy twist and the Others are just plain creepy. I really like the suspense he built there. I thought the book was really good until Eddard Stark got KILLED!! WTF!??!?! AAAGH THAT MADE ME SO ANGRY!! HE WAS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER!! AFJ93F0#al!~!!!! GRRRR. ... *cough* Sorry. I'm so glad the next book was already out because that was so depressing! And come on, the dragons? I saw that coming a mile away. But I think that kinda solves the Others problem because they hate fire and dragons breath fire. Unless the dragons get killed before then of course. Oh! And the whole Jaime/Cersei and Dany/Khal Drogo stuff creeped me out. The first one for obvious reasons and the second because of the age difference and Dany is so young. But overal it was a great book. I'm reading A Clash of Kings now.

Yeah, don't ever warn me about character deaths or hint at them, please. I can't stand spoilers. And yeah, I figured after he killed of Ned that he wasn't afraid to get rid of main characters, and even if he kills them all the way he cycles through POVs it won't matter.
Damn it, Cersei and Jaime are DEAD by book four? I guess it's a good thing; the Others obviously don't give a crap about human wars and Jaime is one of the best fighters they've got ... I wonder where Ser Barristan is? I haven't read about him since he fled the Red Keep. I hope at least Joffrey dies. Brat. -___- And thanks for the tip not to look online. I already figured that but it's good that you told me just in case. I did get sad when Khal Drogo died, though. He and Dany were so happy ... but happiness doesn't sell books. I thought the most intense/exciting part of book one was when that witch woman was doing her sorcery in the tent on Drogo's body, with those shadows dancing and and Ser Jorah fighting Drogo's bloodriders ... my heart was pounding. Haha!Martin knows how to write action scenes. I can't wait to see what he has in store. Of course the winter part is literal, but I was saying that other fantasy series (Narnia and Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn) use winter as symbolic of evil. My favorite character ... now that's a hard one. Before it was unquestionably Eddard Stark. But now it's not so easy. I really like Robb because he's so much like his dad ... lol. I like Arya a lot too. And Tyrion and Ser Jorah. Varys kind of grew on me, too. Although I'm pretty sure Martin is going to kill him off. He knows too much, and if he died, well, nothing is scarier than losing all his knowledge. Oh, and I think it's a shame Syrio Forel died. He was probably the best swordsman in the whole series ... he took out five armed and amored men with a piece of WOOD! Oh well.
