Apart from Harry Potter, which I somehow end up reading every other week.. Most of the Jacqueline Wilson books Oh, and Marley and Me..such a sweet story :3 Have you guys read The Silver Sword by Ian Serraillier (sp?)? We have that book for Literature at school this year and I thought it would be dead boring but it's actually quite a good book. Gaah..I really liked that book too..but school killed it :/

I'm a high school English teacher, and I'm just curious - how could school NOT kill a book? What could have been done differently so you'd enjoy it more?

Jess, it was more of the teacher that killed it than school itself She's just naturally boring and needs to stop going on about one thing for like half an hour. We could have done better with another teacher, lol.

I think it's just the work that comes with reading the book -- having to analyse and evaluate every aspect of it makes it a lot less enjoyable.
However, when I was in Year 8, I remember reading this book called 'Holes' and have absolutely adored it ever since.

Yeah..it's just our brilliant luck to get the worst possible English teachers two years in a row :/ Even though the language was fairly simple, she'd go on "explaining" it to us for ages...just took the life out of the book really
