Peel police are at Sandalwood Heights Secondary School in Brampton today, looking for clues that will lead them to whoever killed a Grade 9 student on his walk home yesterday.
Rajiv Dharamdial, 14, called 911 from his own cell phone to report that he had been stabbed in a construction zone that is used as a short cut to and from school.
“He knew he needed help,” said Peel Regional Police Constable William Patterson. “That’s the sad part of this. He called 911 knowing that there was something tragically wrong. I feel bad for him because he was so close to home. It’s a horrible story.”
Rajiv, known as Ravi by friends, was taken to hospital, where he died.
Police said Rajiv was “a model citizen, and a really good student.”
“It’s totally crushed the family,” said Constable Patterson. His father worked seven days a week to support his family. Police are adamant that the victim had no gang ties.
Rajiv had been walking home with friends, when the group parted ways. Police believe he was then followed, but the motive for the stabbing is not yet clear.
Investigators have released descriptions of two suspects based on information from witnesses and also the victim. They are looking for two black teens, 14 to 16 years old. One is 5 foot 1 to 5 foot 3, has a slim build and styled in short corn rows; the second suspect is taller, and was wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans, a brown baseball cap with a gold sticker, and Air Jordan or Air Force Nike running shoes.

It happened Tuesday.
He was one year older than me and used to go to the school I attend now, only last year. I saw him before. Many of my friends knew him. They were crying in class on Thursday. They didn't find out until Wednesday. It's such a sad story and I can't believe people would be so evil.
He was kind of gang material tbh but he was really nice.
