Katie - YES. WATCH IT. I first watched them somewhere online, no idea where though...adored them ever since. Well, I wouldn't really call it an anime series, just cause it's american made... but that's just me being snoddy XD I have no idea what to call it. I switch between calling it an anime (which, tbh, it really isn't, but most of the fandom seems to go this route) and a cartoon. Note on translations: While some may disagree with the casting choices (and again, its not ideal for me either) what is most important to me about any real-world adaptation is two things: The characters must remain true to themselves, and the feeling of the story must come across. I don't care if Katara's hair thingies aren't there or Sokka cracks a few less jokes, as long as he's still Sokka, who we all know isn't all fun and games. Translating cartoon characters may be thought of as different, but the truth is, with something so fleshed out as Avatar, there's no need to "water anything down." In fact, in just making Book 1 a film, you'll pretty much take out the silly and focus on the beef of the story--the important things will be hit. And, as long as the characters as in tact, that's fine by me. Again, as I've stated many times, this is my biggest problem with the Harry Potter movies. When you ask most people why they don't like OotP, they say its because of all the story lines they cut. Which, I'm sorry, makes no sense. Not all of those story-lines were necessary (like the Quibbler. A great part of the book, but not needed to tell the important stuff). I don't care if I don't see some parts, as long as it still captures the glory of the source material. And a huge part of that source material is the characters. By watering them down as they did so, and by almost entirely changing them, it is practically impossible to capture the essence of a story. Philosopher's Stone, the movie, may have a LOT of canon parts to it, but it will never feel like the books (or, in my opinion, be a really good movie), because the characters are just all wrong (even then). The true substance to EVERY great story is the characters. Avatar just wouldn't be as awesome without all the characters we know and love (and seriously, can you think of one character who isn't a total badass in Avatar? Good or bad, they're all just incredible). Avatar could be about normal people in OUR world, as long as the characters were in tact. If the movie loses that, then it's REALLY lost me. That's why OotP is still, IMO, the only good Harry Potter film. Lets hope that this year and the next, we can add two to that number. Same. I just hope, I HOPE they've kept some of the characters personalities in tact. I know Sokka's not gonna be this comic guy, I know Aang's not going to be as goofy, but I still want some of the character to be shown through the movie versions. I think it's very difficult to keep the heart of the show when you're turning it into live action - the movie is only an hour and a half long (people's main complaint is that it should've been longer, which would have led to more development) making it very, very difficult to squeeze in 10 hours of storylines into. If the movie fails, it fails. I just feel sorry for all the hard work the crew and cast put into the film to have it end that way. Personally, I'd love to see books two and three made, because that's when I started to enjoy it a lot more. I want to see Aang go all Avatar State on Ozai. XD AND YES, KORRA! OH-SO EXCITED. Nobody knows what it is yet, I'm so hyped to find out what Dimartino and Konietzko have in store for us. The main guesses so far seem to be - Korra is the very first Avatar, Korra is the next Avatar after Aang, Korra is Katara and Aang's child (Gaang reappearance FTW!) or that Korra could be an actual place or an object. I have no idea, I just really want to know now. Also, not sure about the reliability of this, but some kid on Twitter said he was trying out for the part of "Meelo" in the new Korra series.

Also, not sure about the reliability of this, but some kid on Twitter said he was trying out for the part of "Meelo" in the new Korra series. Oh hell yes. xD I need an update on this, like, NOW. So because of Korra, this thread won't die after TLA comes out for both of us after all. And Liann and Lu - kudos to your posts. I can't say it any better than that. Because it's so deep, especially for a kids' show, it's tough to carry out that depth into one and a half hours (seriously? Only one and a half hours?) - but then I suppose there wasn't much happening in Season 1, the real stuff starts to happen in Books 2 and 3. So hopefully they'll be longer, and Shyamalan will have a better grip on the series and will learn from his mistakes. *Poke poke* Liann, I know it's waaaay early there, but WAKE UP! Time to go watch the movie! Oh, and now I'm debating on whether to download or not. >.> Wait till 22nd/29th and watch on the big screen or watch it in LQ now? Hmmmm...

THE THREAD SHALL LIVE. xD Ha, seriously cannot wait for Korra. Yeah, it's actually only 100 minutes long, which really miffed me. :/ Making it two and a half hours, or even just two hours long would have left a lot more room for character and plot development. You are right though, not a lot happens in book one - two and three is when it's starts to get more exciting and epic. Here's to hoping they get the chance to make the sequels. Same, Simba. I'm debating too - August 13th seems a long, long way away. I think I might wait for now and see if a near enough good quality torrent turns up (like when a alrightish one turned up for HBP!). The only thing that's making me want to see the film before I go to the cinema is to make sure I'm not dragging my friends to see it for it to be...not so good.

Lu, I'm dragging my friends even if it doesn't turn out to be good. I'm being forced to watch Eclipse on the 8th, and I think we all know what my opinion of that film is going to be. xD (No offense if you liked it. ) But the thing is, I would actually not hesitate to download it if my download speed wasn't so slow Or if I didn't have to wait...um...20 days more. -_- Odd though, I'd kill to have DH1 coming in 20 days. xD Well HBP was 99 minutes long, my ticket (which I still have) said so, and I was like "WAT >_>".

Hahaaa. I'll still go and see it in the cinema, I just want to be prepared...What a lame excuse! xD Ah well, I always worry about what other people are thinking, so seeming I'm the one dragging them to the cinema to watch it and then if they don't enjoy it as much as I do, I'll feel really self-conscious. No worries about Eclipse, it isn't everyones cup of tea! Besides, I still haven't seen it yet - doesn't get officially released here until the 8th or 9th. All films should be at least 2 hours long - it should be a rule XD

Nope, Kyoshi Warriors got cut, because apparently they were just...there - they don't really do much until the second season anyways. A lot of stuff has been cut. I'm beginning to wonder who had final cutting says. I mean, judging from everyone's reviews, this film would have been SO much better if it was over 2 hours long.

Feh! I was wondering how they cast Suki and just cut her from the film. I mean, wouldn't it be embarrassing to take everyone to see your film, and then you're just not there?

Yessssssssss ;D GO LIANN, GO! I think peoples' main complaint was that it was too fast pace, but the director isn't normally in charge of the length of the movie, is he? He must have been asked to cut it down. And jeez, I've noticed that the critics will just NOT like Shyamalan - no matter what. I don't even get why.
